Mastic and sealant work in Hampshire

Our bathroom resealing service in Hampshire

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the bead isn’t stretched the first time someone gets in. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on wet rooms, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are damp behind the bath or under the tray and splits where the tray meets the wall.

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work starts. Most jobs take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Around Basingstoke

Around Basingstoke, our work takes us to homes and buildings near King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery, Cranbourne and Eastrop Park and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include The Rising Sun pub (0.5 miles north-east), St Michael's Church (0.5 miles east) and The Costello School (1 mile east). The closest station to Basingstoke is Basingstoke station, about 0.6 miles east. Nearby you will also find Basing House (2.2 miles east) and The Malls (0.6 miles east). For a walk, there’s Farleigh Hill and Daneshill Park Woods.

Where we work in Hampshire

From Basingstoke, Winchester and Gosport to its smaller places, homes across Hampshire have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

London and the South East have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates. The right sealant depends on the age and materials of the building. Along the coast in Hampshire, holiday lets and guest houses can have bathrooms in near-constant use, so their sealant and grout wear faster than most, and the weather is hard on the outside too.

Basingstoke: Rented homes near Basingstoke station change hands often, and a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. In the older streets around St Michael's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

How the job changes by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop.

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.

Why deal with it now?

A clean new bead makes a room look cared for, which matters if you are letting a property or selling it. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite, and it’s harder to put right later.

Questions to ask before booking

  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • What preparation is included
  • The length of the guarantee
  • How hidden problems are handled

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Keeping the joints in good condition

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner

Check the sealant now and then. A small split or a corner lifting is easy to spot, so if something does not look right, just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning normally won’t remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Hampshire

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Hampshire

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

Allow two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. You’ll know how long to expect before we start.

Should I try DIY first?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?

Yes. The old sealant is cut out and the joint degreased, because cooking grease stops silicone sticking, then we reseal in a colour to suit.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.
