Bathroom resealing in Knapp

About our bathroom resealing in Knapp

Across Knapp, the joints we reseal are the ones that fail in any home: the long edge of the bath, the base of the shower tray, the back of the basin and the line along the worktop. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. Typical jobs include a joint torn by a bath that flexes and failed sealant on the screen profile, across wet rooms, kitchen worktops & upstands and basins & vanity units.

Somewhere as small as Knapp, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Hampshire.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Knapp

Do you cover Knapp for bathroom resealing?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Knapp is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing.

Do you cover smaller places like Knapp?

Yes. Knapp is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is there any odour?

Possibly a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

After around 24 hours in most cases. You will get the exact cure time before we leave.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels across Hampshire.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

What sealant do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

How the job changes by surface

Sinks & splashbacks

Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, and a food-safe product where it’s needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.

Wet rooms

A wet room floor and its walls can move independently, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Cracked grout in a corner can be cut out and replaced with silicone.

What sealant work can’t fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can go on one quote.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Why deal with it now?

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, and that’s a far bigger job than a reseal. In a small place like Knapp, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

The process

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen in most cases. In a small place like Knapp, access is normally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Advice

Knapp homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

In the older streets around Church of St Mark, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Rented homes near Chandlers Ford station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Knapp is about 2 miles north-west of Chandler's Ford, in Hampshire. Wherever you are in the SO51 postcode area, we cover bathroom resealing for homes and businesses. Our Hampshire coverage runs to 683 places, and Knapp is one of them. Southampton is on our list too, around 7 miles away.

Every address in SO51 is covered for bathroom resealing, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We also cover the places around Knapp: Ampfield (1 mile south-west), Broadgate (1 mile south-east), Gosport (1 mile south-west), Lower Slackstead (1 mile north-west) and Crampmoor (2 miles south-west). Larger places within reach include Winchester (6 miles north-east), Eastleigh (5 miles south-east), Fareham (15 miles south-east), Andover (14 miles north), Totton (7 miles south-west) and Hedge End (8 miles south-east).

What we are called out for in Knapp

A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. An acrylic bath flexes under load, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.

People usually contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below

If you look after a building such as Ampfield Church of England Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
