Different surfaces, different methods
Sinks & splashbacks
Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.
Baths
Most bath leaks begin along the long edge, especially under a shower. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone.
How we handle bathroom resealing in Andover
Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. A full bath sits slightly lower than an empty one, so the new joint is not pulled apart the first time it’s used. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on basins & vanity units, baths and shower trays & enclosures, and people most often call us about gaps where the bath or tray has moved and black spots spreading through the bead.
Homes around Andover have been extended and refitted over the decades, some more than once. A common problem is new sealant laid over old, which never bonds properly, so we take every joint back to clean before anything new goes in.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

What we cannot put right
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
- A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly.

What affects the quote in Andover
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- The size of the job
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How easy the joints are to reach
- Which sealant suits the joint
There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll talk you through it.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- Where the property is
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. When it suits you, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
When to call us in Andover
Plenty of failed sealant has been laid over the top of older sealant. Fresh silicone cannot grip the old bead underneath, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.
People generally contact us when they notice one of these:
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
- Damp behind the bath or under the tray
Homes close to Church of St Mary include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
Questions to ask before you book
- What the cure time is
- Which colour the sealant will be
- Are they insured?
- Is the old sealant removed completely?

Do you cover Andover for bathroom resealing?
Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Andover is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.
Where are you based?
Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.
Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?
Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.
What colours of sealant can you use?
White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Should I try it myself first?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, do the work and tidy away. Most jobs take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Parking in a town like Andover is generally straightforward, but tell us if there’s a driveway or any restrictions, and let us know if the work is upstairs, in a flat or up high outside.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
- Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We tidy up and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.
Before we arrive
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Related advice
Looking after it afterwards
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Give the silicone its full cure time
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Do not let bottles sit on the bead
- Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans away from the silicone. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.
