How we handle regrouting in Andover

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Andover are handled the same careful way. Common call-outs are for grout washed out of a shower and floor grout that has worn and darkened, on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls.

Most bathrooms in a town like Andover are in family homes, used every day, where sealant and grout take a lot of daily wear. Black mould along the bath, a lifting bead by the sink or crumbling grout in the shower are the usual signs.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

What happens if it’s left?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone isn’t the answer. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Around Andover, failed sealant lets water into hidden places, such as under the floor, behind a panel or into a wall. Whatever the joint, failed sealant only gets worse.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

Surface by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so grout there works hardest. It generally fails first.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

How we quote for regrouting

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The size of the job
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Where the property is
  • The problem you’ve noticed

For regrouting in Andover, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we will agree the price before any work begins.

When it isn’t the sealant

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What regrouting looks like in Andover

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Andover. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Managing a site like St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What happens on the day

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. It normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Parking in a town like Andover is generally straightforward, but tell us if there’s a driveway or any restrictions, and let us know if the work is upstairs, in a flat or up high outside.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Move anything stored near the joints

When to call us in Andover

Grout used in corners or along the bath cracks as the bath or tray moves. They need flexible sealant, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

People generally contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone

If you let a flat or house near Andover station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

What your quote should include

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • Is VAT in the price?

Common questions in Andover

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Andover?

Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.

Do you work for landlords with property near Andover station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Most of the time, yes. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so we renew both and it’s all in the quote.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Flexible sealant. Grout belongs between the tiles and moving joints need sealant.

How long will you be here?

It depends on the size of the job, but as a guide it takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. We’ll tell you when we quote.

What do you put in the joint?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Is it worth trying it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
