What we do, step by step

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it generally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. For a job in Hyde, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Bathroom resealing in Hyde, done properly

Across Hyde, the joints we reseal are the ones that fail in any home: bath edges, tray joints, basin backs and kitchen upstands. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. Common call-outs are for mouldy sealant that has gone black and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone, across basins & vanity units, baths and shower trays & enclosures.

In and around Hyde, older properties sit alongside newer ones. In older homes, walls and floors can move a little more, so the right flexible sealant matters.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The size of the job
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

For a quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the location and a short description of the problem. We will send you a clear quote before any work starts.

When to call us in Hyde

Plenty of failed sealant has been laid over the top of older sealant. Fresh silicone cannot grip the old bead underneath, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off

Homes close to St Bartholomew's Church include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Hyde questions

I let a flat near Winchester station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Hyde?

Yes. Hyde is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or follow the cure time we give you.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Do I have to be there?

That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in.

Is it messy?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

Where are you based?

We are a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Give the silicone its full cure time
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

Surface by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.

DIY versus a professional finish

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Landlord and commercial work in Hyde

Landlords and agents in Hyde can book us as well as homeowners. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
