Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Hursley

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it into walls, panels and floors. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on wet rooms, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures, and the jobs we see most are a joint torn by a bath that flexes and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting.

In a village or hamlet like Hursley, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Hursley

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll give you a quote.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Questions from Hursley

Do you work for landlords with property near Shawford station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Hursley?

Yes, Hursley is covered. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What sealant do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.

What should I tell you?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator, and we’re fully insured.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

Do I have to be there?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

How the job changes by surface

Basins & vanity units

Vanity units have long, worktop-style joints against the wall. Water that gets behind can damage the unit, so a neat, continuous bead matters.

Sinks & splashbacks

Next to the sink, the sealant has to cope with constant water, including a food-safe sealant where that’s needed. The joint is laid neatly so it’s easy to wipe.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. For a village or hamlet like Hursley, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Related advice

When it is not the sealant

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Hursley?

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Leaking joints on a shower screen
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away

Homes close to Church of All Saints include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
