About our bathroom resealing in Oliver's Battery
Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Oliver's Battery. We’re ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every job carries our 12-month guarantee. We work on basins & vanity units, baths and wet rooms, and common reasons people get in touch are failed sealant on the screen profile and two layers of silicone, both failing.
Being in a small place like Oliver's Battery makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

How the visit works
All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Somewhere like Oliver's Battery needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Clear the area around the work

What do you need from me for a quote?
A short description and the location. If we need more, we’ll ask.
How long does a bath or shower reseal take?
It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.
Should I try DIY first?
It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
Where are you based?
We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.
Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?
Yes, by replacing the sealant. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.
DIY versus a professional finish
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Surface by surface
Shower trays & enclosures
A tray that rocks will split any sealant. We check for movement before we reseal, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.
Sinks & splashbacks
Water getting under the rim of an inset sink can soak the worktop. We reseal the visible edge of the sink where it has failed.
When it is not the sealant
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
What we seal
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Sinks & splashbacks
- Basins & vanity units
- Wet rooms
- Baths
Looking after it afterwards
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
- Dry worktop joints after washing up
- Do not let bottles sit on the bead
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.
Watch for the early signs: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Oliver's Battery
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
For an older house near a landmark such as Saint Mark's, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Olivers Battery Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. If you let a flat or house near Shawford station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
