New build mastic for homes and businesses in Oliver's Battery

Our new-build work comes in two parts: plot mastic for developers, and putting right failed sealant for people who’ve bought a new home. In both, preparation makes the difference. If you’re dealing with joints pulling apart as timber shrinks and frame joints opening as the plaster dries, we can help, whatever the surface.

In a village or hamlet like Oliver's Battery, new homes are more likely to be a barn conversion or a handful of houses than a big estate. Every one needs its sealant and floor joints done properly, whatever the size of the site.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee in Oliver's Battery and across Hampshire.

Can I do it myself?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Why act early in Oliver's Battery

Small cosmetic gaps can wait for the house to settle, but a leaking seal cannot. If you’re unsure which you have, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with pictures. In a small place like Oliver's Battery, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Why us?

  • An ARBOMaster approved applicator
  • Colour agreed with you before we start
  • Full insurance on every job
  • 12-month guarantee on every job

FAQs for Oliver's Battery

Is Oliver's Battery in your area for new build mastic?

Yes, Oliver's Battery is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job.

Do you work for landlords with property near Shawford station?

Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

How long does new build mastic take?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of plots. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Can you match the sealant colour to my new kitchen or bathroom?

Most bathroom joints are white or clear, but sealant comes in other colours too. We choose one to suit the room and agree it with you.

Should I wait before resealing?

That depends on the joint. Failed seals in wet areas need doing now, while small cosmetic gaps can wait a while.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. All our work carries our one-year guarantee.

What does new build mastic cost?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with a short description of the job.

How we quote for new build mastic

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Working hours on commercial sites

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we will come back to you with a quote.

What we cannot put right

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Your warranty claim itself, which is between you and the builder
  • A tray or bath that is not properly supported, until it’s fixed
  • Plumbing faults behind the sealant

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we do, step by step

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots. Somewhere as small as Oliver's Battery, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. Each joint is checked for movement before any work starts.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the joints cleaned.
  3. Joints are dried and primed where the product calls for it.
  4. Baths are filled with water, then the new sealant is applied.
  5. The finished joints are checked and the cure times given.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Record problems with dated photos
  • Resist patching a failed seal with a tube from the DIY shop
  • Ventilate bathrooms well, especially in the first year
  • Wait for the cure time before using a resealed shower

Follow the cure time we give you before the area gets wet. Most silicones need around a day before water reaches them.

If a shower tray or bath seal splits in the first year, look for movement. Have it resealed, and the tray or bath checked, before it gets worse.

What we are called out for in Oliver's Battery

Sealant is often one of the last jobs before handover. Joints are not always cleaned of dust or primed, so the bead never bonds properly.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • New-build shower sealant that has already split
  • Sealant that never bonded to the surface
  • Plot mastic for developers ahead of handover
  • Gaps opening as the house dries out and settles

In and around Oliver's Battery, as anywhere, good new build mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
