Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Newtown. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. Common call-outs are for smears of silicone across the tiles and a bead that has pulled away from the tiles, on kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and wet rooms.
In a village or hamlet like Newtown, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Bathroom resealing around Newtown
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
For landlords with property near Portchester station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. Homes close to Church of the Holy Trinity include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Managing a site like Newtown Soberton Infant School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
Newtown is about 5 miles north-west of Waterlooville, in Hampshire. Homes, rented property, offices and hotels in Newtown is covered for bathroom resealing. The work is guaranteed for a year. We cover 683 towns and villages across Hampshire. For nearby work, see our Portsmouth page (8 miles or so).

What we can’t put right
We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Dry the bead with a towel now and then
- Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Keep bottles off the sealant line
Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, because they trap water against the silicone. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use keeps water from sitting on the joint.
Do not wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Which sealant suits the joint
- How many areas need sealing
- Working hours on commercial sites
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.
What we need to know
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- A few photos by email, if you can
- The rough size of the job
- The problem you’ve noticed
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
There’s no standard price list, because every job is different. Instead, we give you a clear quote for your job. To arrange one, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
Why it’s worth doing now in Newtown
Running new silicone over the old joint can look tidy for a few weeks, but it cannot stick to what’s underneath. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it. In a small place like Newtown, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Doing several joints on one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear price for the lot.
Why us?
- You choose the colour before work begins
- Sealant colour chosen to suit
- Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
- Domestic, commercial and hotel work

Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Newtown: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Newtown?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
I let a flat near Portchester station. Can you help?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the details for a clear quote.
Does someone need to be in?
It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in.
How long does a bath or shower reseal take?
A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, old sealant removal included. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.
Is there any odour?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Ventilation helps.
What should I tell you?
Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
What do you put in the joint?
The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.
How the job changes by surface
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.
Wet rooms
Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.

What happens on the day
When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Somewhere like Newtown needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
Before we arrive
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Move anything stored near the joints
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
