How bathroom resealing works in PO17

With over 20 years in the trade, we reseal baths, showers and kitchens in homes across PO17. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every job carries our one-year guarantee. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, baths and basins & vanity units, and common reasons people get in touch are water getting behind the kitchen upstand and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt.

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Around Wickham

Around Wickham, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Church of St Nicholas, Wickham Church of England Primary School and The Old House Hotel. Wickham’s nearest station is Fareham station, roughly 3.2 miles south. Other landmarks nearby include Fareham Shopping Centre (3.2 miles south) and Carron Row Farm Museum (3.5 miles south-west). For a walk, there’s St Clair's Meadow and Portsdown Hill.

Where we work in PO17

In PO17, bathroom resealing takes in flats, houses, rentals and businesses, from Portchester, Wickham and Wallington to the quieter places in between. Wherever the job is, all the old material comes out before anything new goes in.

The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, though outside sealant still needs a dry, clean joint, so work across PO17 is planned around the weather. Parts of PO17 are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.

Wickham: If you let a flat or house near Fareham station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. If you live in an older home near Church of St Nicholas, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.

How the job changes by surface

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

Shower trays & enclosures

Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both take water every day, so both are resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Signs you need bathroom resealing

No sealant lasts indefinitely. Daily water, heat and cleaning products take their toll over the years, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Two layers of silicone, both failing

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Resealing early stops it.
