About bathroom resealing in PO7

The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. We work on sinks & splashbacks, kitchen worktops & upstands and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are damp behind the bath or under the tray and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone.

Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Local landmarks in Waterlooville

We work in homes and buildings around Saint George's, The Denmead Queen pub and Hart Plain Junior School and the streets around them. The closest station to Waterlooville is Bedhampton station, roughly 2.6 miles south-east. A little further out are Queen Alexandra Hospital (2.7 miles south-west) and Havant Museum (3.3 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Portsdown Hill and Southmoor Nature Reserve.

Bathroom resealing across PO7: local notes

From Havant, Horndean and Waterlooville to its smaller places, homes across PO7 have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, though outside sealant still needs a dry, clean joint, so work across PO7 is planned around the weather. Coastal guest houses and holiday lets in PO7 can see heavy use in busy months, so their sealant and grout wear faster than most, and the weather is hard on the outside too.

Waterlooville: Homes close to Saint George's include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Schools such as Hart Plain Junior School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much there is to do
  • Working hours on commercial sites

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • The type of property
  • The rough size of the job

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. When it suits you, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints

Do not stand bottles along the bead, because they trap water against the silicone. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use helps the joint dry.

Watch for the early signs: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. Any of these means the joint needs attention.

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

When something else is needed

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

Leave it or put it right?

A clean new bead makes a room look cared for, which helps when a home is being let or put on the market. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite, and it’s harder to put right later.

Common questions in PO7

What do you put in the joint?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we will tell you what we’re using.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
