What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How much there is to do
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Access and height

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details and send pictures if you have them.

About our bathroom resealing in Farlington

Sealant that is mouldy, cracked or peeling shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. A photo of the joints helps when you phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email, and we will send you a clear quote before any work starts. Typical jobs include black spots spreading through the bead and water getting behind the bath panel, across baths, shower trays & enclosures and sinks & splashbacks.

In and around Farlington, older properties sit alongside newer ones. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units

How the job changes by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

A tray that rocks will split any sealant. Movement is checked before anything is resealed, and if the tray needs refixing, we will say so.

Sinks & splashbacks

Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

How it works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The job generally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is, including the tidy-up. In a smaller place like Farlington, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Should I try it myself first?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Aftercare tips

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Bathroom resealing in Farlington: local notes

Farlington is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

Letting a property close to Cosham station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. If you live in an older home near Church of St Andrew, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Farlington is about 2 miles south of Purbrook, in Portsmouth. When to call us in Farlington

A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, and a tray that is not fully bedded can rock. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.

People usually contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Solent Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Questions from Farlington

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Cosham station?

Can you do bathroom resealing in Farlington?

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Just list everything you need.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No, never. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away, because silicone does not bond to silicone. We remove the old bead completely before resealing.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
