Our bathroom resealing service in Portsmouth
A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. We work on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & upstands and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone and leaking joints on a shower screen.
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, including the tidy-up.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
- Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
- Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Bathroom resealing across Portsmouth: local notes
Across Portsmouth, from Southsea, Milton and Landport outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Sealant and grout wear out in all of them, whether it’s a family bathroom, a rented flat or a hotel en suite.
London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outside sealant still needs a dry, clean joint, so work across Portsmouth is planned around the weather. Parts of Portsmouth are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.
Portsmouth: In the older streets around St Wilfrid, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Letting a property close to Fratton station? Then fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.
For landlords and businesses
Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will give you a quote.
Aftercare tips
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Dry worktop joints after washing up
- Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
- Dry the bead with a towel now and then
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.
Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally won’t remove it. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:
- When we can work, for business premises
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The type of sealant required
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- The address or postcode of the job
We quote each job on its own. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details and send photos if you have them.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Honest limits
Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
Portsmouth questions
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes, regularly. Several properties can be quoted together, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.
Do I have to be there?
We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
Will you leave a mess?
Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected, and the area is left clean when we finish.
Where do you work from?
Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Do you come to Portsmouth?
We do. Our applicators work in Portsmouth.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.
