Our bathroom resealing service in PO12

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it into walls, panels and floors. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & upstands, and people most often call us about mouldy sealant that has gone black and leaking joints on a shower screen.

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

What’s near Gosport

Typical jobs here are in homes near Brune Park Community School, Brockhurst Primary School and St Vincent College. Also close by are St Faith's Church (0.5 miles south-east) and Queen's Head pub (within half a mile north-west). Gosport’s nearest station is Portsmouth Harbour station, roughly 2 miles east of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Search (1.3 miles south-east) and Gosport War Memorial Hospital (0.8 miles south). The countryside around Gosport includes Portsdown Hill and West of the River Alver.

Bathrooms and kitchens across PO12

From Gosport, Forton and Portsea to its smaller places, homes across PO12 have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Sealant and grout wear out in all of them, whether it’s a family bathroom, a rented flat or a hotel en suite.

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. For any job in PO12, joints are cleaned back properly before anything new goes in. PO12 includes coastal places, where outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.

Gosport: For an older house near a landmark such as St Faith's Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Letting a property close to Portsmouth Harbour station? Then fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Surface by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

If a tray moves underfoot, new silicone will not last. We check for movement before we reseal, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the joints between floor and walls take standing water. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, working on the surface joints, not the tanking or drainage.

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line

Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering keeps water from sitting on the joint.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

What affects the quote in PO12

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The size of the job
  • How easy the joints are to reach

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • Where the property is
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved before giving you a price.

Why deal with it now?

Dealing with sealant early is a short job: it takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Left until water gets through, the job can grow to lifting panels, drying out and decorating.

Common questions in PO12

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You’ll get a clear quote before work begins.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. The old sealant is cut out and the joint degreased, because cooking grease stops silicone sticking, then we reseal in a colour to suit.

Do you cover PO12?

Yes. We’re based in Crawley and work across South East England, London and Scotland, and that includes PO12.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or follow the cure time we give you.
