Bathroom resealing in PO13: how it works
Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. Common call-outs are for black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone, on baths, basins & vanity units and wet rooms.
Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
- We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Where we work in PO13
From Gosport, Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent to its smaller places, homes across PO13 have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.
Hard water across most of the South East leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings. Whatever the job in PO13, surfaces are cleaned back properly before new sealant goes in. Parts of PO13 are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.
Lee-on-the-Solent: Managing a site like Lee-On-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Faith, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
Surface by surface
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop.
Sinks & splashbacks
Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
Why deal with it now?
Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. A new bead often brings the whole room back, provided the bath, tray and tiles are in good order. If something else is wrong, we will tell you.
Questions to ask before you book
- What happens if the job turns out different
- Whether VAT is included
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
What we’re called out for in PO13
No sealant lasts indefinitely. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner slowly wear it down, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Damp behind the bath or under the tray
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
- Black spots spreading through the bead
DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
How we quote for bathroom resealing
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Working hours on commercial sites
- The amount of work
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Mould in or behind the old joints
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- The address or postcode of the job
- The type of property
- How we’d reach the joints
Need a quote? Please call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the job. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.
PO13: your questions answered
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we are fully insured.
Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?
Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Where it’s needed by the sink, we use a food-safe sealant.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint.
Can I choose the colour of the sealant?
We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.
How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?
That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.
Should I try DIY first?
It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
When can I use the bath or shower again?
Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or as long as we advise for that product.
