Bathroom resealing in Long Sutton

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Long Sutton

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. We are often asked to deal with new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal, across wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units.

For a small place like Long Sutton, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Long Sutton

Can you do bathroom resealing in Long Sutton?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Long Sutton is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Will you come out to Long Sutton?

Yes. Long Sutton is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. Where it’s needed by the sink, we use a food-safe sealant.

Do the sealants smell?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

Will you leave a mess?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints.

What we do, step by step

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. Somewhere like Long Sutton needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the work
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Should I try it myself first?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Long Sutton

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Rented homes near Bentley (Hampshire) station change hands often, and mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. In the older streets around Church of All Saints, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Long Sutton

Baths and trays move. An acrylic bath flexes under load, and a tray that isn’t fully bedded can rock. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.

The problems people normally mention when they call are:

  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen

Managing a site like Long Sutton Church of England Primary School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant

Do not stand bottles along the bead, because they trap water against the silicone. A quick squeegee after showering keeps water from sitting on the joint.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

How the job changes by surface

Baths

Acrylic baths flex the most, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Loading the bath with water before sealing allows for it.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows.
