Bathroom resealing near Ringwood

About our bathroom resealing in Ringwood

Across Ringwood, the joints we reseal are the ones that fail in any home: bath edges, tray joints, basin backs and kitchen upstands. Each one is stripped, cleaned and dried before new silicone goes in. Common call-outs are for leaks into the floor or ceiling below and gaps between the worktop and the wall, on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures.

In a smaller place like Ringwood, homes are mostly houses and bungalows rather than flats, some older and some much newer. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do in a big town.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

You will get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:

  • The amount of work
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Any mould that needs treating

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will talk you through it.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

Should I try it myself first?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it normally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. In a smaller place like Ringwood, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Surface by surface

Baths

A bath shifts slightly every time it’s filled, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest.

Basins & vanity units

Basin joints are short and close to eye level: the bead is right in front of you, so it’s tooled cleanly and evenly, finished in a colour that suits the basin.

Ringwood homes and their sealant

Ringwood has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you live in an older home near Trinity Congregational Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Managing a site like Ringwood School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, which is generally around 24 hours. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

Watch for the early signs: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. Any of these means the joint needs attention.

Ringwood: your questions answered

Do you work in hotels near Ringwood?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Is Ringwood within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Where do you work from?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

Should I try DIY first?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure your landlord agrees.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Why act early in Ringwood

Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. A new bead often brings the whole room back, provided the bath, tray and tiles are in good order. If something else is wrong, we will tell you. In an older home around Ringwood, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than renewing the sealant.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us for an honest opinion and a quote.
