About bathroom resealing in BH24
The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. We work on basins & vanity units, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures, and the jobs we see most are a reseal done over the top of the old bead and mouldy sealant that has gone black.
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom, including the tidy-up.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
- Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
- Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
- A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
- We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Where we work in BH24
Across BH24, from Ringwood, St Leonards and Poulner outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.
From Victorian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates, homes across the South East and London cover every era. The right sealant depends on the age and materials of the building.
Ringwood: Managing a site like Ringwood School? Then we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Homes close to Trinity Congregational Church include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
When something else is needed
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
- Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
- Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
Why it fails
Not every tube in the shop is meant for a shower. Decorators’ caulk and all-purpose sealants are not made for constant wetting, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. Wet areas call for a sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive.
The problems people usually mention when they call are:
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- A joint torn by a bath that flexes
- Damp behind the bath or under the tray
Aftercare tips
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.
Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
Leave it or put it right?
Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, turning a small job into a building repair.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in BH24
Do you work in BH24?
Yes. We work in BH24. For a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.
Should I try DIY first?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
What colours of sealant can you use?
White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
When can I use the bath or shower again?
After around 24 hours in most cases. You will get the exact cure time before we leave.
Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?
Yes, we can. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
