What happens if it’s left?

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Steep, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

Bathroom resealing in Steep, done properly

The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, then the joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. If you are dealing with a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal and water escaping at the shower enclosure, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Homes around Steep are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

All our work comes with a 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Hampshire.

What the job involves on each surface

Baths

Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest.

Sinks & splashbacks

The edge of an inset sink is a common place for water to get under the worktop. Where the sealant around the visible edge has failed, we renew it.

Questions from Steep

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Petersfield station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Will you come out to Steep?

Yes, Steep is covered. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, we can. More than one area can be quoted together.

Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?

Yes. Worktops, sinks and splashbacks are all part of the job, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Where are you based?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

How it works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on. Expect the work to take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Somewhere like Steep needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Advice

Keeping the joints in good condition

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant

Have a look at the joints every few months. A small split or a corner lifting is easy to spot, so if something doesn’t look right, just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

What sealant work can’t fix

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks

Should I try it myself first?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether the work is at height

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The rough size of the job
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the property is

For bathroom resealing in Steep, call 0345 464 0079 or email us. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.
