Bathroom resealing across GU32: what to expect

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. Typical jobs include smears of silicone across the tiles and failed sealant on the screen profile, on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and wet rooms.

Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

What you’ll pay

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What’s near East Meon

We work in homes and buildings around East Meon Church of England Controlled Primary School, The George Inn and Church of All Saints, among other places. The nearest railway station is Petersfield station, about 4.1 miles east of the centre. A little further out are Clanfield Earthwork (3.9 miles south-east) and Petersfield Community Hospital (4 miles east). Not far away are Pidham Hill and Shutts Copse.

Bathrooms and kitchens across GU32

Across GU32, from Petersfield, East Meon and Sheet outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Sealant and grout wear out in all of them, whether it’s a family bathroom, a rented flat or a hotel en suite.

London and the South East have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates. The right sealant depends on the age and materials of the building, wherever it is in GU32.

East Meon: Schools such as East Meon Church of England Controlled Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Homes close to Church of All Saints include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in GU32

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Access and height
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

The cost depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

What sealant work can’t fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Give the silicone its full cure time

In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

Different surfaces, different methods

Baths

Most bath leaks begin along the long edge, especially under a shower. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone, tooled so water can’t sit on it.

Wet rooms

A wet room floor and its walls can move independently, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Cracked grout in a corner can be cut out and replaced with silicone.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Questions from GU32

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

Most people choose white or clear, but other colours can be used to suit tiles and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, a 12-month guarantee. Looking after the joint as we suggest helps it last.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Using it sooner can damage the bead.

How much does bathroom resealing cost in GU32?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing and where.

What sealant do you use?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Once mould has grown into the silicone, it generally cannot be cleaned out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.
