About bathroom resealing in SO24
Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through into walls, panels and floors. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We are often asked to deal with shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone, on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & upstands and basins & vanity units.
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.
What you will pay
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Bathroom resealing across SO24: local notes
Our bathroom resealing work across SO24 covers homes, rentals and businesses, from New Alresford, Ropley and Bishop's Sutton to the quieter places in between. Wherever the job is, all the old material comes out before anything new goes in.
The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, but outdoor sealant still needs a dry day and clean surfaces, so outside work in SO24 is planned around the forecast.
New Alresford: If you live in an older home near Church of St John the Baptist, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Sun Hill Junior School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
- Wait for the cure time we give you
- Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Wipe the sealant dry after showering
In a kitchen, don’t let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans off the bead. A dry joint lasts longer.
Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.
Why deal with it now?
A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it won’t bond. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it, and the next reseal means two layers to cut out.
What your quote should include
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What guarantee comes with the work
- Whether you can choose the colour
DIY sealant or a professional job?
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- The size of the job
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.
Helping us quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Where the property is
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Photos by email, if that is easy
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. Whenever you’re ready, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.
When it is not the sealant
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
- Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
FAQs for SO24
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we’re fully insured too.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.
How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in SO24?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing and where.
Can you just seal over the old silicone?
No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, every time. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Can I choose the colour of the sealant?
White and clear are the most common choices, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Tell us what you’d like when you get in touch.
Can I do it myself?
Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.
