Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Calshot
Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. If you have new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and leaking joints on a shower screen, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
For a small place like Calshot, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

How the visit works
When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. In a small place like Calshot, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
- We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
Preparing for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Aftercare tips
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Wait for the cure time we give you
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Wipe the sealant dry after showering
- Do not let bottles sit on the bead
Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.
Worktop joints fail quietly. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.
Surface by surface
Shower trays & enclosures
Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
Wet rooms
If a wet room leaks, the cause may be the tanking or the drain rather than the joints. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.
What sealant work cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Failed grout lines across the wall
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
- Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Surfaces we seal

DIY versus a professional finish
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
When to call us in Calshot
The wrong product fails fast. Decorators’ caulk and all-purpose sealants are not made for constant wetting, so they crack, discolour or grow mould quickly. Wet areas call for a sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
For an older house near a landmark such as St George, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
Before you book anyone
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- How much experience the applicator has
- When the joint can take water or movement
Calshot homes and their sealant
Calshot is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
If you let a flat or house near Hamble station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

What else we do in Calshot
Why deal with it now?
Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. A new bead often brings the whole room back. If something else is wrong, we will tell you. Older cottages and farmhouses around Calshot can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
