Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Winnall

A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. We work on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and wet rooms, and people most often call us about cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone and leaking joints on a shower screen.

Even in a smaller place like Winnall, bathrooms and kitchens see heavy daily use. Older or newer, every room gets the same approach: all the old material out, the joint cleaned and dried, then new sealant or grout.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, which is usually around 24 hours. Once it’s cured, wiping it down after use keeps it looking new.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

What we can’t put right

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units

Surface by surface

Baths

A bath shifts slightly every time it’s filled, so we fill it with water before sealing. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and isn’t torn the first time it’s used.

Wet rooms

If a wet room leaks, the cause may be the tanking or the drain rather than the joints. We reseal the joints and will tell you if the water seems to be coming from somewhere else.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • When we can work, for business premises

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • The type of property

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

Why it’s worth doing now in Winnall

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but where mould is inside the silicone it normally comes back. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again. In a smaller place like Winnall, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Winnall homes and their sealant

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Winnall Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Winchester station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. Homes close to Church of St John the Baptist include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Should I try it myself first?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The process

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we are doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work starts. Most jobs take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. A visit to Winnall is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Move anything stored near the joints
