What happens if it’s left?

Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. Older cottages and farmhouses around South Weirs can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

South Weirs homes and their sealant

South Weirs has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you look after a building such as Brockenhurst Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Brockenhurst station change hands often, and a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • The size of the job
  • The type of sealant required
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Any working-time requirements on site

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The rough size of the job

Want a quote for bathroom resealing? Please call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details. We’ll explain what we’d do and give you a clear price before any work starts.

Should I try it myself first?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

What we are called out for in South Weirs

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal

If you live in an older home near Church of St Saviour, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Our hiring checklist

What we do, step by step

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. In a small place like South Weirs, access is normally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Yes. South Weirs is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in South Weirs?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Will there be a smell?

Possibly a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Do I have to be there?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover South Weirs and the rest of Hampshire.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in South Weirs?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it peels away and hides mould and water. We always take the old sealant out completely.
