Regrouting in Highland: how it works
We work across Highland, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, and we finish by resealing the edges. We are often asked to deal with grout in corners that has cracked and gaps where the shower grout has gone, across wet rooms, tiled floors and bathroom floors.
The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on, so you can get on with your day. The job normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
What you’ll pay
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

How to get a quote
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. Whenever you’re ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Landmarks near Inverness
Typical jobs here are in homes near Inverness, Cavell Gardens and Maple Court Hotel and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Inverness station, about 0.7 miles north. Nearby you will also find Inverness Castle (0.5 miles north) and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery (0.5 miles north). Not far away are Tomnahurich.
Bathrooms and kitchens across Highland
From Inverness, Nairn and Thurso to its smaller places, homes across Highland have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.
Homes in Scotland come with their own details: sash and case windows, harled walls and, in the towns and cities, tenement flats. Highland is part of the area we cover across Scotland. Along the coast in Highland, holiday lets and guest houses can have bathrooms in near-constant use, which is hard on sealant and grout, and the weather is hard on the outside too.
Inverness: Schools such as Inverness High School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. If you let a flat or house near Inverness station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
How to look after the new joints
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout, before the joints open up.
What affects the cost of regrouting
You’ll get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:
- Working hours on commercial sites
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.
Helping us quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- A few photos by email, if you can
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Describe what needs sealing and we will explain what’s involved.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
When something else is needed
We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- Tiles that are chipped or split
Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom floors
New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.
Corners and edges
Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.
Common questions in Highland
Do you grout the corners?
We seal corners with silicone. They move slightly, and grout there cracks.
How long does the job take?
As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
Do you come to Highland?
Yes, we do. Highland is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting, so you can decide what to do.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We are fully insured.
Can tenants book the work?
Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
