Our bathroom resealing service in KW14
Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. We work on baths, wet rooms and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are failed sealant on the screen profile and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt.
All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
- We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.
How we quote
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
What you get with us
- A 12-month guarantee on all work
- Domestic, commercial and hotel work
- 20+ years of sealant experience
- Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What’s near Thurso
Around Thurso, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Thurso High School and Thurso. Thurso has its own railway station: Thurso station. Nearby you will also find Scrabster Castle (0.7 miles north-west) and Thurso Heritage Museum (0.6 miles north-west).
Bathrooms and kitchens across KW14
Across KW14, from Thurso, Castletown and Am Blàran Odhar outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.
Homes in Scotland come with their own details: sash and case windows, harled walls and, in the towns and cities, tenement flats. KW14 is part of the area we cover across Scotland. Parts of KW14 are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.
Thurso: For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Thurso High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Rented homes near Thurso station change hands often, and mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
What happens if it’s left?
You do not need a new bathroom because the sealant looks bad. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes. If we find a deeper problem, you will hear it from us.

Why it fails
With age, silicone loses its stretch. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
- A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
How to look after the new joints
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Do not let bottles sit on the bead
- Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.
Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- Any mould that needs treating
- The size of the job
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- Working hours on commercial sites
The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- The type of property
- How we’d reach the joints
- The rough size of the job
- A few pictures by email, if you can
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email photos if that’s easy.
How the job changes by surface
Shower trays & enclosures
There are normally two jobs in a shower: the tray-to-wall joint and the enclosure joints. Both take water every day, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
Sinks & splashbacks
Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, including a food-safe sealant where that is needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.
FAQs for KW14
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure your landlord agrees.
Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?
Yes. Where it’s needed by the sink, we use a food-safe sealant.
What do you put in the joint?
The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.
Are you insured?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.
When can I use the bath or shower again?
Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or follow the cure time we give you.
Do you work for letting agents?
Yes, regularly. We can quote for several properties at once, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.
