Bathroom resealing for Rattar homes and businesses

Bathroom resealing in Rattar, done properly

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. Common call-outs are for lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and water getting behind the kitchen upstand, on baths, kitchen worktops & upstands and shower trays & enclosures.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Rattar and across Highland.

Can I do it myself?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Different surfaces, different methods

Sinks & splashbacks

Water getting under the rim of an inset sink can soak the worktop. Where the sealant around the visible edge has failed, we renew it.

Shower trays & enclosures

A tray that rocks will split any sealant. We check for movement before we reseal, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.

Bathroom resealing around Rattar

Rattar is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For jobs in and around Rattar, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

What affects the quote in Rattar

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • The size of the job
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How many areas need sealing
  • When we can work, for business premises

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Photos by email, if that is easy

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll explain what’s involved before giving you a price.

What happens on the day

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Outside jobs in Rattar need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Rattar questions

Is bathroom resealing in Rattar guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will you come out to Rattar?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that normally means someone at home.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Is it worth trying it myself?

It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Can tenants book the work?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so the bead comes out, the joint is treated and new anti-fungal silicone goes in.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Rattar?

The wrong product fails fast. Decorators’ caulk and all-purpose sealants are not made for constant wetting, so they crack, discolour or grow mould quickly. Wet areas call for a sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles

In and around Rattar, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What to look for in a quote

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • The length of the guarantee
  • Whether VAT is included
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing

Honest limits

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.
