Asking for a quote

- Roughly how big the job is
- How we’d reach the joints
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and pictures are welcome.
Regrouting in Auldearn, done properly
Before we start, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting won’t fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you have corners filled with grout instead of silicone and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, we can put it right.
For a place like Auldearn, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Auldearn as everywhere else we work.

What the job involves on each surface
Corners and edges
Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.
Shower walls
Most regrouting jobs include a shower. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.
Why it’s worth doing now in Auldearn
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and the room is out of use for longer. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Around Auldearn, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What regrouting looks like in Auldearn
Auldearn is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
For landlords with property near Nairn station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. If you live in an older home near Auldearn Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

How the visit works
There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room in most cases. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Auldearn questions
Do you cover Auldearn for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Auldearn is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Do you cover smaller places like Auldearn?
Yes, Auldearn is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work.
What should I tell you?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure your landlord agrees.
Should I try DIY first?
You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
DIY versus a professional finish
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.
Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. By then, new grout alone is not enough, so it’s worth acting early.
