What regrouting looks like in Dyke

Dyke is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In the older streets around Dyke Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

How we handle regrouting in Dyke

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Either way, tiled areas in Dyke are handled the same careful way. Typical jobs include grout that makes sound tiles look old and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, on bathroom floors, wet rooms and bathroom wall tiles.

A bathroom in a place like Dyke gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Common questions in Dyke

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Forres station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Do you cover Dyke for regrouting?

Yes, Dyke is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, it will not last. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or just the joints that have failed.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Should corners be grouted or sealed?

Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

New grout cannot hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured.

Aftercare tips

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly

We will tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Cracked grout does not stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.

Different surfaces, different methods

Corners and edges

Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.

What sealant work cannot fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

Where we work in Dyke

  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors

Leave it or put it right?

Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They will not fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

DIY versus a professional finish

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

When to call us in Dyke

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has usually got into the grout.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Floor grout that won’t come clean
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Splashback grout that has darkened

If you let a flat or house near Forres station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What to look for in a quote

  • Is VAT in the price?
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • When the joint can take water or movement

Choosing a sealant specialist

How it works

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Around Dyke, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
