Forres Regrouting

Tiled areas in Forres need attention? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

Regrouting for Forres homes and businesses

How we handle regrouting in Forres

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting won’t fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you’re dealing with grout that makes sound tiles look old and shower grout that has worn away, we can help, on shower walls, bathroom wall tiles and bathroom floors alike.

In a town like Forres, stone-built older streets normally sit alongside harled houses and newer estates. Bathrooms and kitchens across all of them need their sealant and grout renewing from time to time.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Forres

Forres is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Andersons Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. If you live in an older home near Castlehill Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Questions from Forres

Do you take on hotel work around Forres?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Do you cover Forres for regrouting?

Yes, Forres is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes, that is common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Will there be a smell?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Opening a window helps.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status, and we are fully insured.

Common problems we fix in Forres

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Old grout in a dated colour

If you let a flat or house near Forres station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Why act early in Forres

Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Dealing with it now keeps it small. In Forres, wind and rain soon get through failed outside joints. Inside, a failed seal around a bath or shower lets water into floors and ceilings.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • The type of sealant required
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • The type of property
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll explain what’s involved.

Different surfaces, different methods

Bathroom floors

If floor grout keeps cracking, the floor may be moving. We check the tiles before regrouting.

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.

How the visit works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The job generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. A visit in Forres needs three things planned: access, parking and where the work is. Outdoor jobs need a dry day, so they can move if the weather turns.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
