Regrouting in Cromarty

What affects the quote in Cromarty

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

For a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We will send you a clear quote before any work starts.

Regrouting in Cromarty, done properly

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk. We work on kitchen splashbacks, bathroom wall tiles and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are grout that makes sound tiles look old and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.

In and around a place like Cromarty, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

When it isn’t the sealant

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms

What happens on the day

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outside jobs in Cromarty need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Cromarty and across Highland. We can quote a run of properties together, and we’re fully insured for the work.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers

Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

What regrouting looks like in Cromarty

Cromarty is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Around Cromarty, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Cromarty is about 9 miles north-west of Nairn, in Highland. From the centre of Cromarty to the outskirts, we cover regrouting for every kind of property. Cromarty is one of 253 towns and villages in Highland where we work. Our Aberdeen page covers work nearby, about 80 miles away.

What we’re called out for in Cromarty

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout and stick to it. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.

The problems people usually mention when they call include:

  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Shower grout that has worn away

Whether the job is in Cromarty itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

10 questions to ask before booking

DIY versus a professional finish

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

FAQs for Cromarty

Do you cover smaller places like Cromarty?

Yes, Cromarty is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Cromarty?

All our work, in Cromarty and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.

Do you reseal at the same time?

We generally do. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and could still leak.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Let us know what needs doing and where. We will ask anything else we need to know.

Where do you work from?

We are a Crawley-based firm. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.
