Regrouting in Castletown
Our applicators work in Castletown on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.
- Grout that is cracking and breaking up
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Old grout in a dated colour
Regrouting for homes and businesses in Castletown
Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. Typical jobs include discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, on kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and shower walls.
A bathroom in a place like Castletown gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

What affects the cost of regrouting
Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The product the joint needs
- Access and height
- Mould in or behind the old joints
Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- The address or postcode of the job
Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.

Your questions about regrouting in Castletown
What guarantee comes with regrouting in Castletown?
All our work, in Castletown and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Is Castletown within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How do I get a quote for regrouting in Castletown?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels in Castletown.
Will regrouting fix loose tiles?
Regrouting will not fix loose tiles. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
In most cases, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.
How long will you be here?
A typical job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, including the preparation. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
For landlords and businesses
We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order.
Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. We can quote a run of properties together.
Leave it or put it right?
Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, which turns a regrout into a retile. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

Keeping the joints in good condition
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Check the corner silicone every few months
Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers because they wear grout away.
Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
How it works
We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere like Castletown may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
Before we arrive
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Surface by surface
Shower walls
Most regrouting jobs include a shower. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.
Wet rooms
New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It does not repair failed tanking underneath.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Castletown
Castletown is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
In and around Castletown, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. If you live in an older home near St Trothan's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
Castletown is about 5 miles east of Thurso, in Highland. From the centre of Castletown to the outskirts, regrouting is available for homes and businesses alike, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Our area takes in 253 places across Highland, large and small.
All of KW14 is covered for regrouting. Local streets include Calder Square, Main Street and Traill Street, all of which we cover. We also cover Murkle (2 miles west), Dunnet (3 miles north-east), Brough (4 miles north), Bower (4 miles south-east) and Thurso (5 miles west). If you’re somewhere remote, the job takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

What sealant work can’t fix
New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:
- A floor or wall that keeps moving
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
