Questions from Dornie
Is regrouting in Dornie guaranteed?
All our work, in Dornie and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Will you come out to Dornie?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we’re fully insured.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
We usually do. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and wouldn’t keep water out.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We’ll point them out before any grout comes out.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.
Regrouting in Dornie, done properly
Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. If you are dealing with grout washed out of a shower and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, we can help, on tiled floors, shower walls and wet rooms alike.
Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
Use a gentle cleaner on the grout with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.
Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.
Regrouting around Dornie
Dornie is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
In and around Dornie, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Should I try it myself first?
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.
What we are called out for in Dornie
Grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that’s used every day.
Common reasons people contact us include:
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
- Grout washed out of a shower
If you live in an older home near St Duthuc's Roman Catholic Chapel, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
What to look for in a quote
- How much experience the applicator has
- What happens if the job turns out different
- How long the guarantee is
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom floors
New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.
Kitchen splashbacks
A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

Why act early in Dornie
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Around Dornie, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

The process
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
