Regrouting for homes and businesses in Inverarish

If you’ve been scrubbing grout that won’t come clean, the stain is often in the grout itself. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. Typical jobs include dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease, across shower walls, wet rooms and bathroom floors.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

What affects the cost of regrouting

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access and height
  • How much there is to do
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The number of rooms or windows

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Where the property is
  • The type of property

We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and pictures are welcome.

What regrouting looks like in Inverarish

Inverarish is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

In and around Inverarish, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What sealant work can’t fix

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors

How the visit works

You do not need to clear the whole room or building, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area for a typical job. Somewhere like Inverarish may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Rinse the tiles after showering

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

What happens if it’s left?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone isn’t the answer. We’ll tell you before any work starts so you know what’s involved. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

What we are called out for in Inverarish

Grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that is used every day.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Grout in corners that has cracked

For jobs in and around Inverarish, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
