FAQs for Watten

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Watten?

All our work, in Watten and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do regrouting in Watten?

Yes, Watten is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Will it make a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Can tenants book the work?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

It varies with the products and the room. We’ll tell you exactly how long when the job is done.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

About our regrouting in Watten

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Watten are handled the same careful way. If you’re dealing with a grout colour that no longer suits the room and grout in corners that has cracked, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

Why deal with it now?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but mould that has got into grout usually comes back. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can go on one quote, and we are fully insured.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout and a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

What happens on the day

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room from start to finish. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

How to prepare

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Move anything stored near the joints

Advice

What affects the cost of regrouting

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How much there is to do
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Access and height

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • How we’d reach the joints

Every job is quoted individually. Simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job and send photos if you have them.

Regrouting around Watten

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In and around Watten, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Whether the job is in Watten itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Watten is about 12 miles south-east of Thurso, in Highland. Jobs in Watten get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Across Highland, we cover 253 places, Watten among them.
