How we handle regrouting in Laide

Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water has a way in behind the tiling. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. If you have floor grout that has worn and darkened and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, we can help.

In and around a place like Laide, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Regrouting around Laide

Laide is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

In and around Laide, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Common problems we fix in Laide

Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened

For jobs in and around Laide, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

FAQs for Laide

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Laide?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is Laide in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Laide is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Does someone need to be in?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Tiles that have come away need sorting first. We’ll point them out before any grout comes out.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

We generally do. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and could still leak.

How long does regrouting take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

How do I get a quote for regrouting in Laide?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You’ll get a clear quote before we start.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Access and height
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • How much there is to do

Combining jobs into one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The rough size of the job
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • How we’d reach the joints

Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details.

DIY versus a professional finish

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering

We will tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

The process

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work starts. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Laide may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Advice

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.
