About our regrouting in Inverasdale

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We work on bathroom floors, wet rooms and kitchen splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are a grout colour that no longer suits the room and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Inverasdale work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

What we can’t put right

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

What we seal

What happens on the day

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Around Inverasdale, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Common questions in Inverasdale

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Inverasdale?

All our work, in Inverasdale and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do regrouting in Inverasdale?

Yes, Inverasdale is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

How long does regrouting take?

That depends on how much there is to do, but most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is usually more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What information do you need?

A short description and the location, plus photos if you have them. We will ask anything else we need to know.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

It can. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint rather than sitting on top.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Normally, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

Common problems we fix in Inverasdale

A poor original job is a common cause. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard can wash out within a few years.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Shower grout that has worn away

Whether the job is in Inverasdale itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What happens if it’s left?

Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They do not fill cracks or stop water, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

How we quote for regrouting

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The product the joint needs

The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

What to tell us for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The rough size of the job
  • The problem you’ve noticed

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that’s easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will talk you through the work.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use keeps water off the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

Inverasdale homes and their sealant

Inverasdale is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

Around Inverasdale, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.
