How we handle regrouting in Àird

A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so nothing is ripped out. We work on tiled floors, shower walls and wet rooms, and common reasons people get in touch are floor grout that has worn and darkened and shower grout that has worn away.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

DIY versus a professional finish

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

When it isn’t the sealant

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

FAQs for Àird

Do you cover smaller places like Àird?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is regrouting in Àird guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

How much does regrouting cost in Àird?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, regularly. Several properties can go on one quote, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

We seal corners with silicone. They move slightly and grout cannot take that movement.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We will point them out at the start.

Where do you work from?

We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

How the visit works

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area from start to finish. Outdoor work around Àird depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

How to prepare

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

Common problems we fix in Àird

Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, which is why we check the tiles first.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up

Whether the job is in Àird itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Regrouting around Àird

Àird is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

In and around Àird, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Àird is in Highland. Anywhere in IV22, we cover regrouting for homes and businesses. We cover 253 towns and villages across Highland, large and small.

We cover every part of IV22 for regrouting. If you need regrouting at a property on Mackenzie Square and Pier Road or anywhere close by, our applicators can take on the job. Neighbouring places we cover for regrouting include Aultbea (1 mile east), Laide (3 miles north-east), Inverasdale (3 miles south-west), Poolewe (5 miles south) and Gairloch (8 miles south-west). For island and remote addresses, the job takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

How we quote for regrouting

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • The size of the job
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The type of property

Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location. Photos by email help us understand the job.

What happens if it’s left?

New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. In an older home around Àird, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
