About our regrouting in Laggan

Regrouting is normally paired with resealing. Grout belongs between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. We work on bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about good tiles let down by tired grout and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Laggan work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

Mr Mastic applicator sealing the vertical joint between a glass shower screen and tiled wall

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen splashbacks

Kitchen grout collects grease and food splashes. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.

Bathroom wall tiles

Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can regroute just those areas or the whole wall.

Why it’s worth doing now in Laggan

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

What regrouting looks like in Laggan

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

In and around Laggan, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What affects the quote in Laggan

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How easy the joints are to reach

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

We do not publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To arrange one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Common problems we fix in Laggan

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, and damp grout is where mould grows. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Floor grout that will not come clean
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles

In the older streets around Laggan Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What your quote should include

  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • Is VAT in the price?

The process

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a place like Laggan, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Advice

FAQs for Laggan

Do you cover Laggan for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Laggan is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Do you cover smaller places like Laggan?

Yes. Laggan is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. More than one area can be quoted together.

How long does the job take?

As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

We can. We will look at the rest of the room too and let you know if more needs doing.

Does someone need to be in?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we will tell you what we are using.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Laggan, along with the rest of our area.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Aftercare tips

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Keep the fan on after showering

Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well so the grout dries between uses.

Grout that’s washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
