Regrouting in Glenelg, done properly

Before any work starts, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. If you have kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and grout washed out of a shower, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Every job is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Highland.

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Glenelg?

All our work, in Glenelg and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Which products do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we are fully insured too.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

New grout cannot hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

Should I try DIY first?

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

What regrouting looks like in Glenelg

Glenelg is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

In and around Glenelg, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. If you look after a building such as Bernera School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Glenelg is in Highland. Homes, rented property, offices and hotels in Glenelg is covered for regrouting. The work is guaranteed for a year. Glenelg is one of 253 towns and villages in Highland where we work.

The process

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The visit itself normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the size of the job. Outdoor work around Glenelg depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Why it’s worth doing now in Glenelg

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

Can I do it myself?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

When something else is needed

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

Different surfaces, different methods

Bathroom floors

Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout there would crack.
