About our regrouting in Tomatin

If you’ve been scrubbing grout that will not come clean, the discolouration has normally soaked into the grout. New grout is the fix that lasts, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. If you have splashback grout that has darkened and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, we can put it right, on bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and wet rooms alike.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Tomatin work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Is Tomatin in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Tomatin is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure your landlord agrees.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

How long does regrouting take?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll tell you when we quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.

How much does regrouting cost in Tomatin?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing and where.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

What happens on the day

We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room and we leave things clean and tidy. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the work
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

What regrouting looks like in Tomatin

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Around Tomatin, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it. For jobs in and around Tomatin, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Tomatin is about 13 miles south-east of Inverness, in Highland. From the centre of Tomatin to the outskirts, we cover regrouting for every kind of property, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Across Highland, we cover 253 places, Tomatin among them. You can also see our page for Aberdeen, roughly 71 miles from Tomatin.

All of IV13 is within our area for regrouting, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Whether your property is on Old Mill Road, Ard Park and Juniper Drive or a nearby road, our applicators can take on the job. Neighbouring places we cover for regrouting include Carrbridge (8 miles south-east), Farr (8 miles north-west), Duthil (9 miles east), Milton of Leys (10 miles north-west) and Boat of Garten (11 miles south-east). For island and remote addresses, the job takes a little more planning.

What happens if it’s left?

Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They do not fill cracks or stop water, and stains can show through again. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

For landlords and businesses

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works.

What sealant work cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Cracked or broken tiles

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Where we work in Tomatin

  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors

Should I try it myself first?

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen splashbacks

A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It’s often the first place grout washes out.
