Regrouting in Hilton

Regrouting in Hilton, done properly

A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so nothing is ripped out. We’re often asked to deal with floor grout that won’t come clean and grout that makes sound tiles look old, on kitchen splashbacks, tiled floors and bathroom floors.

A bathroom in a place like Hilton gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee in Hilton and across Highland.

Why act early in Hilton

Regrouting won’t help where tiles have come away. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That’s why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.

What sealant work can’t fix

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before work begins. Sealant will not put right:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors

Aftercare tips

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

Have any tile that moves checked right away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and open a path for water.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

What regrouting looks like in Hilton

Hilton is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

If you look after a building such as Inshes Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Hilton is about 1 mile south-east of Inverness, in Highland. Hilton gets the same service as everywhere we cover: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. 253 places in Highland are on our list, large and small.

Jobs for regrouting in IV2 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you need regrouting at a property on Burn Road, Wade Road and Dell Road or anywhere close by, our applicators can take on the job. We also cover Inverness (1 mile north-west), Lochardil (1 mile south-west), Slackbuie (1 mile south), Crown (1 mile north) and Ballifeary (1 mile west). Being one of Highland’s larger places, Hilton has homes, rented property and businesses of every kind. For island and remote addresses, a little more planning is needed, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

What we’re called out for in Hilton

Grout that was put in corners cracks as the bath or tray moves. They need flexible sealant, and when they are not, water gets in.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean

If you let a flat or house near Inverness station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

How it works

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and tidy away. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a place like Hilton, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

How to prepare

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

FAQs for Hilton

Do you cover smaller places like Hilton?

Yes, Hilton is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Inverness station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

If tiles are loose, something behind them has generally failed. Regrouting alone is not the answer and we will say so before going ahead.

What does regrouting cost?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. To get one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing and where.

Should corners be grouted or sealed?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They move slightly and grout can’t take that movement.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes, we often do. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.
