Quotes for fire rated sealant in Tomatin

We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The product the joint needs

Doing several joints on one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we will come back to you with a quote.

How we handle fire rated sealant in Tomatin

Fire-rated sealant closes the gaps around pipes, cables and frames where they pass through a fire-resisting wall or floor. We apply intumescent and fire-rated sealants to the manufacturer’s tested details for each gap. We work on flats & HMOs, pipe & cable gaps and plasterboard & masonry, and people most often call us about gaps flagged on a fire risk assessment and open joints along the top of partitions.

In a smaller place like Tomatin, commercial jobs are more likely to be a hotel, guest house, school, surgery or community hall than an office block. Each needs sound sealant in its washrooms and kitchens, and fire-rated joints kept in good order.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Commercial buildings in Tomatin

Scotland has its own building regulations, the Building (Scotland) Regulations, with technical handbooks. We install fire-rated sealant to the product’s tested details, though we do not certify buildings or do fire risk assessments.

Whether the job is in Tomatin itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Tomatin is about 13 miles south-east of Inverness, in Highland. Tomatin gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Our applicators cover all of IV13 for fire rated sealant and the streets around it. Local streets include Old Mill Road, Ard Park and Juniper Drive, all of which we cover. Common questions in Tomatin

Will you come out to Tomatin?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you cover Tomatin for fire rated sealant?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Tomatin is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Can I do it myself?

It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, always. Each job is guaranteed for twelve months.

Do you certify the fire stopping?

We do not give ratings or certificates for our work. The requirement comes from your assessor, designer or building control, and we fit a product whose tested details meet it with a record of each location.

Is standard sealant good enough for a fire gap?

No. Where a fire-rated seal is needed, it has to be a product tested for that use.

Can you tell me which gaps need fire stopping?

No, assessment isn’t something we do. When your assessor or designer has set out what’s needed, we’ll quote for the sealant work on it.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

How the visit works

There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes a few hours for a handful of gaps, and longer for a whole building for a typical job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Access to each area is agreed so the work can run in order.
  2. We take out any damaged or unsuitable sealant.
  3. Dust and loose debris are cleaned from each gap.
  4. We apply and tool the sealant to the product’s tested detail.
  5. We record what was done and flag anything that needs a different system.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Advice

Common problems we fix in Tomatin

Sealant applied too thin, without the backing its detail needs, or onto dust won’t perform as it was tested. Rushed fire stopping is common, especially where it was squeezed in at the end of a project.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Sealant items on a fire risk assessment action list
  • Seals cut through by electricians, plumbers or data installers
  • Open joints along the top of partitions
  • Gaps around pipes and cables through fire-resisting walls

Around Tomatin, as everywhere, fire rated sealant is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • What happens if the job turns out different

Our hiring checklist

Honest limits

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Fire risk assessments, which need a qualified assessor
  • Certifying a building or signing off its fire safety
  • Large holes that need a different fire-stopping system

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Service penetrations
  • Flats & HMOs
  • Pipe & cable gaps
  • Plasterboard & masonry
  • Door frames
  • Linear gaps

Different surfaces, different methods

Plasterboard walls

Service holes in plasterboard are often rough and oversized. Gaps that are too big for sealant alone need a different detail.

Service penetrations

A copper pipe, a cable and a plastic pipe can all need different fire-stopping details. We follow the manufacturer’s tested detail for each.

Leave it or put it right?

If an assessor has flagged gaps, it makes sense to close them before the next review. Having them sealed and recorded now means you can show the action was taken. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.
