How we handle regrouting in Staxigoe
We work across Staxigoe, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, and we finish by resealing the edges. We work on shower walls, wet rooms and bathroom floors, and people most often call us about grout that’s cracking and breaking up and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Staxigoe work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What we can’t put right
We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.
Surfaces we seal
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen splashbacks
Leave it or put it right?
New grout smeared over the old does not bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. In an older home around Staxigoe, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.
Why us?

What the job involves on each surface
Corners and edges
Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.
Bathroom wall tiles
Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Staxigoe
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can go on one quote.
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
Regrouting around Staxigoe
Staxigoe is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wick High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s usually the first thing to need attention.
Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.
Your questions about regrouting in Staxigoe
Do you cover smaller places like Staxigoe?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

How do I get a quote for regrouting in Staxigoe?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.
How long does regrouting take?
A typical job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.
Where are you based?
We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Do I need to be at home?
We need access to the joints, so we will agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
What information do you need?
The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.
Should I try DIY first?
It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.
What we’re called out for in Staxigoe
A poor original job is a common cause. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly can wash out within a few years.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
For landlords with property near Wick station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.
