Need regrouting in Torness?

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Torness

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Torness are handled the same careful way. We work on bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and shower walls, and people most often call us about corners filled with grout instead of silicone and floor grout that won’t come clean.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Torness work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How many areas need sealing
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

The cost depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before work begins.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • The type of property

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Torness homes and their sealant

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Whether the job is in Torness itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. Around Torness, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

When it isn’t the sealant

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles

What the job involves on each surface

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so its grout takes the most punishment. It normally fails first.

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.

What we do, step by step

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area for a typical job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Advice

Leave it or put it right?

Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first.

Why book with us

  • Fully insured
  • Arbo and Everbuild products
  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
