Regrouting in Smoo, done properly

Before we start, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you’re dealing with cracked grout along the bath or tray and cracked or crumbling grout lines, we can help, whatever the surface.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

All our work comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Highland.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Smoo

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

If you manage several properties in or around Smoo, several properties can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and pictures by email help.

When something else is needed

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls

Looking after it afterwards

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then

Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Why it’s worth doing now in Smoo

Patching a few joints can look like a quick win, but the patches often do not match, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.

Smoo questions

Is Smoo in your area for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Smoo is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Is regrouting in Smoo guaranteed?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

Before we leave, we’ll tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we have been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

Do the sealants smell?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Ventilation helps.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels across Highland.

How long does the job take?

As a guide, most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Bigger jobs take longer.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Most of the time, yes. Grout fills tile gaps and sealant handles the moving joints, so both are renewed and include it in your quote.

When to call us in Smoo

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

For jobs in and around Smoo, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

What your quote should include

  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • What the cure time is
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • Are they insured?

How the job changes by surface

Corners and edges

Edges are resealed while we are there, so the whole area is finished together.

Bathroom floors

Grout on a floor is walked on as well as wetted. It wears and darkens over time.

How it works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we are working on. The job normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Outdoor work around Smoo depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Before we arrive

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

Regrouting in Smoo: local notes

Smoo is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

In and around Smoo, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Smoo is in Highland. From the centre of Smoo to the outskirts, regrouting is available for homes and businesses alike. Across Highland, we cover 253 places, and Smoo is one of them.

Work in IV27 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. Nearby, we also carry out regrouting in Diuranais (1 mile north-west), Melness (11 miles east), Tongue (13 miles south-east), Kinlochbervie (13 miles south-west) and Scourie (21 miles south-west). Island and remote addresses take a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you ask for a quote.
