How we handle regrouting in Dalmore
Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. We are often asked to deal with stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and cracked or crumbling grout lines, across wet rooms, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls.
For a place like Dalmore, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are covered after we have gone.

Common problems we fix in Dalmore
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, and damp grout is where mould grows. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Grout that is cracking and breaking up
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Shower grout that has worn away
If you look after a building such as Alness Academy, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
What your quote should include
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
- How long the guarantee is
Dalmore homes and their sealant
Dalmore is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Rented homes near Alness station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. Homes close to Rosskeen Parish Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
Dalmore is about 15 miles north of Inverness, in Highland. Homes, rented property, offices and hotels in Dalmore is covered for regrouting. The work is guaranteed for a year. Dalmore is one of 253 places in Highland where we work.

Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom wall tiles
Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
Wet rooms
In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so sound grout really matters. We check for loose tiles before starting.
Aftercare tips
Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so it’s generally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.
Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

Why it’s worth doing now in Dalmore
It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but the patches often do not match, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Doing the full area gives you one colour and sound joints throughout. In a place like Dalmore, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Combining jobs into one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear price for the lot.

Questions from Dalmore
Do you cover smaller places like Dalmore?
Yes, Dalmore is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Dalmore?
Yes, hotels and guest houses are among the places we work. A room-by-room programme keeps most rooms in use while the work goes on.
What guarantee comes with the work?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee.
Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?
Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.
Where do you work from?
We’re based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Will you leave a mess?
We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
What sealant work cannot fix
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
- Bathroom floors
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Tiled floors
Can I do it myself?
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
How the visit works
We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outside jobs in Dalmore need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
How to prepare
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
