Regrouting in Cromdale

Regrouting in Cromdale

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. If you’re dealing with old grout in a dated colour and grout stained black or orange that won’t clean, we can help, whatever the surface.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Cromdale homes and their sealant

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

In and around Cromdale, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Cromdale is about 19 miles south of Forres, in Highland. Across the PH26 area, we can carry out regrouting at your property. Across Highland, we cover 253 places, Cromdale among them. For nearby work, see our Aberdeen page.

All of PH26 is covered for regrouting. If you need regrouting at a property on Auchroisk Road, Kirk Road and Auchroisk Place or a nearby road, we can help. If you are just outside Cromdale, we cover Grantown-on-Spey (3 miles west), Dulnain Bridge (5 miles south-west), Skye of Curr (6 miles south-west), Nethy Bridge (6 miles south-west) and Tormore (6 miles north-east). If you are somewhere remote, the job takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

What affects the cost of regrouting

You will get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:

  • How much there is to do
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • How we’d reach the joints

For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before work begins.

What we are called out for in Cromdale

When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, so we check the tiles before work begins.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

For an older house near a landmark such as Cromdale Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

10 questions to ask before booking

How it works

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere like Cromdale may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Questions from Cromdale

Do you cover smaller places like Cromdale?

Yes. Cromdale is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is Cromdale in your area for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Cromdale is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.

How do I get a quote for regrouting in Cromdale?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

Do the sealants smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

You’ll get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before the shower is used.

Where do you work from?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Cromdale and the rest of Highland.

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We renew both.

Corners and edges

We reseal edges at the same time as regrouting, so everything is renewed at once.

Can I do it myself?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Honest limits

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A leaking wet room membrane

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms

Why deal with it now?

Patching a few joints can look like a quick win, but patched grout rarely matches the rest and the old grout carries on failing. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.
