Our regrouting service in Argyll and Bute

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Argyll and Bute are handled the same careful way. We’re often asked to deal with grout washed out of a shower and floor grout that has worn and darkened, across bathroom wall tiles, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom floors.

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we’re treating, so you can get on with your day. Expect the work to take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, and we explain the cure time before we leave.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Local landmarks in Helensburgh

Typical jobs here are in homes near Lomond School, The Henry Bell pub and St Joseph's R.C. Church and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in Helensburgh itself: Helensburgh Central station. A little further out are Ardencaple Castle (1.3 miles west) and Victoria Infirmary (0.5 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Lyle Hill.

Bathrooms and kitchens across Argyll and Bute

Argyll and Bute has homes of every age, old and new, with plenty of rented property in places like Helensburgh, Oban and Dunoon. Regrouting keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.

The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, but outside joints take plenty of weather everywhere. Sealants for jobs in Argyll and Bute are chosen with that in mind. Argyll and Bute includes coastal places, where outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.

Helensburgh: For landlords with property near Helensburgh Central station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Lomond School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Why it fails

Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has generally got into the grout.

People normally contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease

How to look after the new joints

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Check the corner silicone every few months

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

What sealant work can’t fix

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Why act early?

Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint.

How we quote for regrouting

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The number and length of the joints

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Where the property is
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Common questions in Argyll and Bute

Should corners be grouted or sealed?

Flexible sealant. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we have been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

How much does regrouting cost in Argyll and Bute?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You will get a clear quote before we start.
