Regrouting in Clynder
Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so nothing is ripped out. If you’re dealing with grout in a colour the owner wants to change and cracked or crumbling grout lines, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

DIY versus a professional finish
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Clynder and across Argyll and Bute. We can quote a run of properties together, and we’re fully insured for the work.
In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Clynder homes and their sealant
Clynder is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
In and around Clynder, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Rented homes near Helensburgh Upper station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Questions from Clynder
Is Clynder within the area you cover?
Yes. Clynder is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you do regrouting in Clynder?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Clynder is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Does someone need to be in?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Can I do it myself?
It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
When can I use the shower again?
You will get a clear time from us before we go. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.
What guarantee comes with the work?
All our work carries a one-year guarantee, and we’re fully insured.
What affects the cost of regrouting
There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:
- Whether the work is at height
- When we can work, for business premises
- How many areas need sealing
- Which sealant suits the joint
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.
What we need to know
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- Whether it has been sealed before
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Roughly how big the job is
Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where and its rough size. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we will take it from there.
Aftercare tips
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
- Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
Have any tile that moves checked right away. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
How it works
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Around Clynder, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
How to get a quote
Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and photos are welcome.

When it is not the sealant
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
Where we work in Clynder
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
- Tiled floors
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom floors
Surface by surface
Kitchen splashbacks
Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.
Bathroom wall tiles
Walls outside the shower get less water but still stain and crack. Regrouting brings them back in line.
